BIRDS

Information about more than one hundred and thirty common Australian birds is available on this site. There are many more birds in Australia but those included here are species most often seen by travellers on the road, around camping and caravan sites, or when walking quietly through the bush or on seashores. This section makes it easier to identify these more readily seen birds and to learn about their habits. Bird information is gathered in Fact Sheets, one per species, containing photographs of the bird, descriptive material and often some details on nesting habits. Fact sheets print satisfactorily on A4 paper. Quality of paper will determine the quality of the printed photographs. For details on recommended printer settings go to  PRINTING  . Finding Fact Sheets The best way to identify an unknown bird species is to click on "Contents" above or below to open pages of thumbnail photographs of birds described in this guide. Where appropriate, separate photographs are included for males, females, breeding and non-breeding individuals. A single click on the small photograph will open the fact sheet for that species. When the common name of a bird is known, click on "Index" in the box above or below then choose the name from alphabetical lists; click on the name to open the fact sheet. Regional Collections To browse bird photographs from selected parts of Australia click on "Regional" in the box above or below. These photographs are of birds most often, or most easily, seen in those regions.
