BIRD REGIONS
Western Australia
The Kimberley  birds region covers the northern part of Western Australia including Derby, Fitzroy Crossing, Wyndham, Kununnurra, the Ord River and Lake Argyle. Broome is not included. The region has a monsoonal climate.
Northern Territory
The Central Australia region includes Alice Springs and Kings Canyon as well as the Stuart Highway north and south of Alice Springs. This covers arid country as well as the steep and rocky Macdonnell Ranges and the urban area of Alice Springs.
Queensland
The Southwest Queensland bird region extends from Charleville and Cunamulla west past Quilpie, Thargomindah and Eulo to the SA border and south to NSW. The area is increasingly arid towards the west and several bird species are confined to the eastern or western parts by environmental considerations; for example, some species which prefer arid conditions are found at Thargomindah but not around Charleville and vice versa.
The Coastal North Queensland bird region is along the Queensland coast north of Mackay
Tamborine is in south-east Queensland inland from the Gold Coast on the northern side of the Mount Warning complex. The region is moderately timbered and well watered; although much timber has been cleared for hobby farms and agricultural activity.
New South Wales
The NSW Central Coast region lies between Sydney and Newcastle centred on the township of The Entrance and nearby Tuggerah Lake. The Lake has thriving waterbird communities with nearby Wyrrabalong National Park preserving habitats for other birds. Wyrrabalong National Park is in two section north and south of The Entrance and preserves the last section of coastal (littoral) rainforest on the Central Coast. Vehicular access to both section is easy and there are several walking tracks in the park
Victoria
The Port Phillip Region The is centred on Port Phillip including metropolitan Melbourne and the Bellarine and Mornington Peninsulas. This is a region of different habitats suitable for waterbirds and forest dwelling birds.
South Australia
The Flinders Region includes birds seen in the Flinders Ranges and surrounding area including Port Augusta and the northern extremity of Spencer Gulf. This includes a variety of bird habitats from steep, rocky and arid Flinders Ranges to the sheltered water of Spencers Gulf as well as the urban are of Port Augusta and the semi-arid and arid vegetation of the Arid Lands Botanic Gardens just outside Port Augusta.
